Parish Announcements – week of November 19th, 2023 (The 25th Sunday after Pentecost, Proper 28)

Welcome to St. Alban’s Episcopal Church—we’re very glad you’re here!

FROM OUR FRIENDS AT TRINITY CHURCH (DOWNTOWN FORT WAYNE), RON AND LINDA BUSKIRK:

Delicious, organic, certified extra virgin, fair trade, Palestinian olive oil is again available for purchase for holiday gift-giving or your own pantry. Olive Branch Olive Oil is a non-profit project established to aid Palestinian olive farmers by creating a market for their oil. Each 500 ml bottle sells for $16.00 – an inexpensive price for this quality oil pressed by West Bank farmers shortly after harvesting in their olive orchards.

And there’s more!  This year Palestinian Medjoul Dates are available from the latest harvest, supporting Palestinian date farmers.  The price of a 1-pound box is $14.00. They’re plump, sweet, and quite delicious!  A portion of the sales of both the oil and the dates will be donated to Trinity’s Outreach Ministry.

To order, contact Ron Buskirk by November 19.  Ronald_Buskirk@frontier.com, or 260-413-1953.  Orders will be delivered for pick up at St. Alban’s in early December.

UPCOMING MARK YOUR CALENDARS:

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT OF A SIGNIFICANT CHANGE: well, maybe not significant exactly but an important one nonetheless!  Beginning on Sunday, December 3rd (the First Sunday of Advent and the beginning of the Church New Year—Year B) our Sunday Eucharist time will move from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Our annual Thanksgiving Eve Eucharist will take place here at St. Alban’s at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 22nd. Please join us for this special service.

Our annual St. Nicholas Day Party will take place on Sunday, December 3rd at 1:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall. The focus of this event is the trimming of the Jesse Tree, a prophecy of Jesus Christ from the Book of Isaiah, “And there shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots. ”Jesse was the father of David, Israel’s greatest king. And Jesus is descended from the line of David. He is the branch God promised would grow from Jesse’s family tree.  Please consider signing up to provide white icing and candies (preferably shapes, we have plenty of plain sprinkles) for the kids to decorate cookies. We also need chocolate coin candies. Any of these items can be dropped off and placed in the kitchen by Sunday Nov. 26th.  Please contact Cindy Spice or Megan Spice if you have any questions….and thank you for your consideration and support for this event!

The next Men’s Night Out will take place on Wednesday, 11/29/23 at 6:30 p.m. at Casa Grande (1025 Woodland Plaza Run, 46825, off Dupont Road). Please see the sign-up sheet on the bulletin board in the narthex.

It’s getting colder as winter approaches in earnest! Please consider donating any winter coats, hats, scarves and gloves (new OR used) you may have to our “Between the Holidays Coat Drive” beginning next Sunday (11/19) through the Second Sunday of Advent (12/10). There will be designated boxes for such donations in the narthex beginning next Sunday. Men’s items will be given to the Fort Wayne Rescue Mission and women’s items will go to the Women’s Shelter. Thank you for considering this type of contribution at this time of year.

If you are able, please review the sign-up sheets in the Parish Hall for future openings for Coffee Hour sponsors and hosts and consider signing up for a Sunday; this makes our post-service fellowship very festive and delicious and we appreciate any and all help in this area!

Wednesdays at 10 a.m. in the Parish Hall – come join us on Wednesdays as we tackle the Book of Isaiah. Our Bible Study is always followed by a celebration of the Eucharist. ALL ARE WELCOME!!
