ASCENSION DAY is this Thursday. Forty days after Easter our Lord Jesus Christ ascended to heaven, an event which took place before the eyes of His disciples, in order that the truth of His ascension might be historically established for the disciples and the entire Christian church. Join us at 7:00 p.m. that evening for this major feast of the Christian Church as we worship our powerful resurrected and ascended Lord.

OUTREACH COMMISSION meets at 11:30 a.m. this Friday.

SPRING CLEANUP is this Saturday, May 16. We need some eager helpers to make our church look beautiful on the outside, not just the inside. We need anyone who can help spread mulch, weed, seed, plant flowers, trim bushes, and have fun. This is a great opportunity to have fellowship while glorifying God by planting and caring for His beautiful gifts in nature. Please come anytime between 8 a.m. and noon to be a part of this wonderful day. The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board. Any gardening tools (shovels, rakes, wheel barrels, gloves, etc.) you can bring would be greatly appreciated. Questions can be answered by calling Chris Renner at 260-557-7804.

BISHOP LITTLE will be with us on Wednesday, May 20, to lead a workshop/presentation on how to attract and welcome new members into the church. This is a very important endeavor, for as Christians we are always called to reach out and share the love of God. So please sign the poster in the narthex and join us on May 20 at 6:00 p.m. for a potluck supper, followed by the presentation.

NEXT SUNDAY IS YOUTH SUNDAY It is always special for our congregation to watch our youth be a major part of the Eucharist.

DIOCESAN CAMP We have chosen next Sunday to raise money so that the younger children, as well as the teens, can attend camp. Cost is $405 per camper in grades 3-9 and $350 per teen in grades 9-12. Camp is a very important part in helping our kids on their spiritual journey. Special envelopes are available in the pew card holders. Any amount would be greatly appreciated; we don’t want cost to be the reason that a child doesn’t go to camp. Talk with Cindy Spice if you would like more information about Camp Mack or how you can help.

LENTEN COIN FOLDERS are available in the narthex. Proceeds will be used to support the Madina Village School in Sierra Leone, which opened on September 16, 2013 for 270 students ages 4 through 10. In the process the village, and the surrounding area, has been mobilized to produce enough food to sustain themselves, and has been inspired to develop their own leadership and community efforts.

MITE BOXES are available in the narthex. Proceeds will be used to support the Against Malaria Foundation. Malaria is a major problem in sub-Saharan Africa. Over 1 million people, mostly children, die each year. Insecticide-treated bed nets prevent cases of and deaths from malaria and are relatively inexpensive, about $5 per net.

30 HOUR FAMINE Once again our youth will stand up for hunger around the world by participating in the World Vision 30 Hour Famine. World Vision has been working for over six decades to fight hunger. They are the largest global distribution partner of the United Nations’ World Food Program. In 2013 they reached over 7.5 million people in 33 countries with food assistance. On March 6 and 7 our youth will go 30 hours without food to learn what it is like for many young people around the world. They will also be raising money to send to Uganda, a country that has been stricken since their independence from the United Kingdom in 1962. The people of Uganda have faced political, economic and social challenges that have severely hindered development. Our youth have set a goal of $500.00 and appreciate your support in any amount to help us do our part. We will collect donations after the 8:00 service and before and after the 10:15 service from March 1 until March 29. Please make all checks payable to World Vision.   4. You will then get a message to check your email inbox and click on the link within the body of the email.
  5. Click on My Account and use your email address and password.
  6. Click on Edit Kroger Community Rewards information and input your Kroger Plus card number.
  7. Update or confirm your information.
  8. Enter 10486 and click on confirm.
  9. To verify you are enrolled correctly, you will see your organization’s name on the right side of your information page.

Many of these children would not have an opportunity to experience what so many of our children have done for years, the fun, love, caring and sharing of Jesus at summer camp. Please give generously, in the special envelopes provided in the pew card holders so we can help more each year to experience the love of Jesus. Make checks payable to St. Alban’s. Include your offering number on the envelope for credit on your contribution statement.

LENT BEGINS THIS WEEK  The chief purpose of Lent is preparation for the celebrations of Easter, the greatest festival of the Christian Church.  Therefore the focus of the Lenten season is on the suffering and sacrifice of Christ for our sins.  The liturgical color of Lent is purple, the color of repentance and sorrow for sins.

ASH WEDNESDAY liturgies, with the imposition of ashes, will be held at Noon and at 7:00 p.m. this week.

ENDOWMENT ANNUAL MEETING will be held tomorrow at 6:00 p.m.

ASH WEDNESDAY liturgies, with the imposition of ashes, will be held at Noon and at 7:00 p.m. on February 18.

A LENTEN STUDY focusing on the four Gospels and what each of them highlights will be held on the Wednesdays of February 25, and March 4, 11, 18 and 25. Join us for worship at 6:30 p.m., followed by the study.

PALMS Please bring in your palms from last year’s Palm Sunday to be burned for ashes for Ash Wednesday. There is a basket in the narthex in which you may leave your palms.

HEART TO HEART PROJECT Help us collect 100 hats, scarves, socks, and pairs of gloves or mittens to be distributed to local groups who need them. These items may be handmade or purchased. We can use all sizes—adult to infant. Place them in the collection box (made by the Sunday school students) in the narthex. Help us keep Fort Wayne warm! SOUPER BOWL SUNDAY Hundreds of congregations nationwide will transform Super Bowl Sunday into Souper Bowl Sunday – a unique interdenominational endeavor to glorify God and care for “the least of these brothers and sisters of mine.” Matthew 25:40. Please make a special effort to bring a can or two of soup to church next Sunday for this Souper collection.

PRAYER NIGHT will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 5. We will discuss our prayer lives, offer prayers for the Church, and discuss important Christian topics for the month.

BISHOP LITTLE will be with us on Sunday, February 8. Please plan to worship with us that day. Join us for fellowship after the 10:15 service. A signup sheet for finger foods is posted in the narthex.
