     ANNOUNCEMENTS

 MEMORIAL DAY is this Monday.  This Federal holiday is celebrated the last Monday of each May to honor the men and women who died while serving in the military.

 WORSHIP THROUGH MUSIC Do you play an instrument?  Do you like to sing?  Would you like to sing or play a solo…or be part of a duet, trio, or even small ensemble?  Do you want to be part of the choir?  All who would like to participate in worship through music in anything from a solo to a group please contact Michelle Kyrou.

10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m at The Cathedral of St. James in South Bend.  Sacred Oils will be blessed for distribution to the parishes.   Clergy will renew their ordination vows.  Bishop Little will preside, Bishop-elect Sparks will preach.  Please sign the poster located on the bulletin board if you plan to attend.  

FORWARD DAY BY DAY devotional booklets for February through April are available in the narthex.  Please take one for your personal or family devotion and another to give to a friend.

WORSHIP COMISSION meets this Wednesday at 6pm. Please join us if you have any worship ideas.

SOUPER BOWL SUNDAY On February 7 the Food Bank will be collecting canned soup for Souper Bowl Sunday. This is an annual event that really helps us fill the pantry. Any kind of soup is good. Thank you for all your support of the Food Bank.

A SHROVE TUESDAY PANCAKE SUPPER will be held from 5:00 – 6:30 on February 9. Pancakes, sausage, fruit, and beverages will be served. Proceeds from the free will offering will go to the Operating Fund. Please sign the poster in the narthex so we will know how much food to purchase. Join us and bring your friends!

ASH WEDNESDAY liturgies, with the imposition of ashes, will be held at Noon and at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday the 10th. The ashes are placed on our foreheads in the shape of a cross to remind us of the forgiveness granted us through the suffering and death of Christ and the gift of eternal life we have received. The Noon service is a said service and the 7:00 service is sung.

HELP IS NEEDED: The Fort Wayne Rescue Mission has asked for help one night a month for the next five months. It is concerning serving dinner. The serving time is from 4:30-5:30. No other preparations are necessary, just to be there. This is another wonderful opportunity for us (perhaps the men’s group) to reach out in our community. Please speak to or call Dave Krocker

DAUGHTERS OF THE KING meet this Tuesday at 10:00 a.m.

BISHOP LITTLE’S RETIREMENT. Please make a note that Bishop Little will be with us January 24th at both services with a special reception after each service. There is also planned a Diocesan wide retirement party for Bishop Little in South Bend on Friday February 26th. Any who purchase a ticket for this February 26th dinner may attend on a first come first serve basis. See the bulletin board for the invite on how to purchase tickets or ask Father Layden.

ONE SERVICE AT 9:00 a.m. on JANUARY 31, followed by the Annual Meeting. A BRUNCH will be held following the 9:00 a.m. service on Sunday, January 31 followed by the Annual Meeting. Please sign up on the bulletin board in the narthex so we know how many people will attend.

ALTAR FLOWER AND SANCTUARY CANDLE CHARTS FOR 2016 are posted in the narthex. Envelopes are found beneath the charts. Please include the information you would like listed in the bulletin. Make your check payable to St. Alban’s. Cost of flowers is $33.00. Cost of sanctuary candles is $3.00.

ADVENT BEGINS TODAY. Advent helps us prepare to receive the promised Christ as He comes, whether at his lowly birth in history, his continual and wonderful coming to us in his Word and Sacrament, or his triumphal coning again. In our worship we move to Year C of the Sunday Lectionary Cycle, which being on page 911 in the Book of Common Prayer.

CHRISTMAS PAGEANT REHEARSALS: Calling all children! Christmas will be here before we know it and it’s time to start preparing for the annual St. Albans Christmas pageant held on Christmas Eve. If your children are interested in being a part of this wonderful pageant, please plan on joining us for the following practices: (please note: no practice will be held today)

  • December 6
  • December 13
  • December 20

All practices will be held immediately following the 10:15 service and will last approximately 30 minutes.

Pageant will be held at the 4:00 pm Christmas Eve service.

THE SAINT NICHOLAS PARTY will be held at 12:30 p.m. next Sunday. Lunch will be provided. Children will decorate cookies and Father Layden will explain the Jesse Tree. There will also be a special guest stopping by for a visit.

ALTAR GUILD members meet for cleaning at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 13, and decorate for Christmas on Sunday, December 21.

ANNUAL YOUTH CHRISTMAS PLAY Mark your calendars now for our play on Sunday, December 20, at 6:00 p.m.

This year’s play is called “Virgil’s First Christmas.” It is filled with funny characters that will prove to be inspirational as well as hilarious.

Come and join us for a dinner of breakfast items and a lot of fun. Tickets go on sale Sunday, November 29, and will be sold every Sunday up to and including the day of the show. We will sell after the 8:00 services and before and after the 10:15 services. Prices are $8.00 for adults, $4.00 for ages 3-10, with 2 and under free. HANGING OF THE GREENS Many hands are needed on Sunday, December 20 after the 10:15 service. Please join us as we work together to prepare for the joyous Christmas season.

THE GIVING TREE – On November 22 a tree filled with ornaments that have gift requests listed on the back will be located in the narthex. Please be sure to register your gift selection with a Daughter at a table nearby, where the ornament will be exchanged for a gift tag which you will attach to your gift. All gifts should be new and wrapped in Christmas paper.

A basket of labels, from which you may choose food and hygiene items needed by the families, will also be available at the table. You do not have to wrap these items; just place them in the laundry basket with the family number, located by the tree.

All gifts, food and hygiene items are due at the church by Sunday, December 6.

Weekly Announcements, October 4

WELCOME. We want to welcome any and all visitors with us today. If you
would like to make yourself known to us, then please fill out a blue card found
in your pews and place it in the alms plate when that is passed. Please also
join us for fellowship after the service in the parish hall which is to your right as
you exit the sanctuary.

CONFIRMATION CLASS BEGINS TODAY. A confirmation class for students 7th grade or older, who would like to be
confirmed or received or reaffirm their faith, will be held at 9:15 a.m. on the
Sundays of October 4, 11, 25. and November 1 and 8. Bishop Little’s next
official visit will be January 24, 2016 when he will confirm, receive and reaffirm
those from this class. If you have any questions or want to know more, then
please contact Father Layden.

OUR FOOD PANTRY has been wonderfully staffed in the past, but due
to various reasons we have lost a few people. If you have 2 1/2
hours a month to help serve those in need, please call Marilyn McClure.

ANIMAL BLESSINGS TODAY. Every year around the feast of St. Francis we
celebrate our lovable critters. So please bring your fury friend or other critter
and we will give thanks to God for them today at 4pm.

CELEBRATION SUNDAY – OCTOBER 18. In order to “Celebrate God’s Generosity”
we will conclude our fall stewardship campaign on Sunday, October 18, with
worship and a brunch. On this Sunday we will have one service at 9:00 a.m.
Followed by a brunch. Please sign the poster on the bulletin board in the
narthex, indicating how many from your family will attend the brunch and
whether you will bring a salad, casserole, or dessert.
