A LENTEN STUDY focusing on the four Gospels and what each of them highlights continues each Wednesday in March. Join us for worship at 6:30 p.m., followed by the study.

LADIES FELLOWSHIP AND STUDY meets at 6:30 p.m. this Thursday at the home of Marilyn McClure.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS are held at 6:00 p.m. each Friday during Lent. Walk with Jesus down the road to Calvary on The Way of the Cross, a powerful devotional liturgy that follows Jesus through His passion and death. At each station a meditation, versicle and response, and prayer is read.

30 HOUR FAMINE Once again our youth will stand up for hunger around the world by participating in the World Vision 30 Hour Famine. World Vision has been working for over six decades to fight hunger. They are the largest global distribution partner of the United Nations’ World Food Program. In 2013 they reached over 7.5 million people in 33 countries with food assistance. On March 6 and 7 our youth went 30 hours without food to learn what it is like for many young people around the world. They are raising money to send to Uganda, a country that has been stricken since their independence from the United Kingdom in 1962. The people of Uganda have faced political, economic and social challenges that have severely hindered development. Our youth have set a goal of $500.00 and appreciate your support in any amount to help us do our part. We will collect donations after the 8:00 service and before and after the 10:15 service from March 1 until March 29. Please make all checks payable to World Vision. If you would like to learn more or help in anyway please contact Cindy Spice at 348-7061.

We are now enrolled in the Kroger Community Rewards program. Our number is 10486. To use the program you must register you Kroger Plus card online. Here’s how:

  1. Register online at krogercommunityrewards.com
  2. Click on Sign In/Register
  3. Enter your zip code, clicking on your favorite store, entering your email address, creating a password, and agreeing to the terms and conditions
  4. You will then get a message to check your email inbox and click on the link within the body of the email.
  5. Click on My Account and use your email address and password.
  6. Click on Edit Kroger Community Rewards information and input your Kroger Plus card number.
  7. Update or confirm your information.
  8. Enter 10486 and click on confirm.
  9. To verify you are enrolled correctly, you will see your organization’s name on the right side of your information page.

REMEMBER, purchases will not count for St. Alban’s until after you register your card.

LENTEN COIN FOLDERS are available in the narthex. Proceeds will be used to support the Madina Village School in Sierra Leone, which opened on September 16, 2013 for 270 students ages 4 through 10. In the process the village, and the surrounding area, has been mobilized to produce enough food to sustain themselves, and has been inspired to develop their own leadership and community efforts.

MITE BOXES are available in the narthex. Proceeds will be used to support the Against Malaria Foundation. Malaria is a major problem in sub-Saharan Africa. Over 1 million people, mostly children, die each year. Insecticide-treated bed nets prevent cases of and deaths from malaria and are relatively inexpensive, about $5 per net.

TODAY IS CAMP NEW HAPPENINGS SUNDAY We will have a special collection for Camp New Happenings, supported by our diocese for children of incarcerated parents. Many of these children would not have an opportunity to experience what so many of our children have done for years, the fun, love, caring and sharing of Jesus at summer camp. Please give generously, in the special envelopes provided in the pew card holders so we can help more each year to experience the love of Jesus. Make checks payable to St. Alban’s. Include your offering number on the envelope for credit on your contribution statement.

A SHROVE TUESDAY PANCAKE SUPPER will be held from 5:00 – 6:30 this week.  Pancakes, sausage, fruit, and beverages will be served.  Proceeds from the free will offering will go to the Operating Fund.  Please sign the poster in the narthex so we will know how much food to purchase.  Join us and bring your friends!

LENT BEGINS THIS WEEK  The chief purpose of Lent is preparation for the celebrations of Easter, the greatest festival of the Christian Church.  Therefore the focus of the Lenten season is on the suffering and sacrifice of Christ for our sins.  The liturgical color of Lent is purple, the color of repentance and sorrow for sins.

ASH WEDNESDAY liturgies, with the imposition of ashes, will be held at Noon and at 7:00 p.m. this week.

MEN’S NIGHT OUT will be held at 6:30 p.m. this Thursday at Zianos Italian Eatery 702 East Dupont Road (next door to the Lucky Moose).

WE WELCOME Bishop Little today as our Celebrant and Preacher and pray for God’s blessing upon his proclamation of the Word and administering of the Sacraments.  He will also confirm Michael Irvine.  Please join us for a reception following the 10:15 service.

ENVELOPES FOR THE BISHOP’S DISCRETIONARY FUND are found in your bulletins today.  This fund is used to assist with emergency needs in and outside of our diocese.  Please make checks out to St. Alban’s.  If you are using cash, be sure to write your name or number on the envelope so you will receive credit on your contribution statement.

FORWARD DAY BY DAY devotional booklets for February through April are available in the narthex.  Please take one for your personal or family devotions and another to give to a friend.

SOUPER BOWL SUNDAY Hundreds of congregations nationwide will transform Super Bowl Sunday into Souper Bowl Sunday – a unique interdenominational endeavor to glorify God and care for “the least of these brothers and sisters of mine.” Matthew 25:40. Please make a special effort to bring a can or two of soup to church next Sunday for this Souper collection.

SOUPER BOWL SUNDAY Hundreds of congregations nationwide will transform Super Bowl Sunday into Souper Bowl Sunday – a unique interdenominational endeavor to glorify God and care for “the least of these brothers and sisters of mine.” Matthew 25:40. Please make a special effort to bring a can or two of soup to church on February 1 for this Souper collection.

PRAYER NIGHT will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 5. We will discuss our prayer lives, offer prayers for the Church, and discuss important Christian topics for the month.

BISHOP LITTLE will be with us on Sunday, February 8. Please plan to worship with us that day.

FORWARD DAY BY DAY devotional booklets for February through April are available in the narthex. Please take one for your personal or family devotions and another to give to a friend.

KROGER COMMUNITY REWARDS Kroger will begin a new program this month. Once St. Alban’s is enrolled in the new Community Rewards program, members will be able to go online and enroll their individual Kroger Plus cards to the organization’s account. Each time an enrolled member shops using a Kroger Plus card, St. Alban’s will receive credit. It will no longer be necessary to purchase and reload gift cards.
