Weekly Announcements, November 3

ON THE FIRST SUNDAY of each month the loose plate offering, minus any quarters, goes to the Rector’s Discretionary Fund. Loose quarters continue to go to Matthew 25. If you would like your contribution to the Rector’s Fund to appear on your financial statement, simply use a designated envelope from the pew cardholder and note the number of your offering envelope.

PRAYER NIGHT The first Thursday of each month we have a prayer night during which we discuss our prayer lives and offer prayers for the Church. We also discuss important Christian topics for that month. Please join us at 7:00 p.m. this Thursday.

IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN and the turkeys have made it to our front door. With your help we will once again supply a full turkey dinner for 6 of our food pantry clients. Please bring the food AND TURKEY back by next Sunday. The baskets are picked up early to give the folks time for their turkeys to thaw. Refrigerated items go in the refrigerator in the boiler room and frozen items go in the chest freezer in the Food Bank. This is one of our church outreach programs that is a surprise blessing to those 6 families who are struggling day to day to keep food on their tables.

LUNCH BUNCH meets on Tuesday, November 12, at 11:30 at St. James Restaurant, 204 E Albion Street, Avilla. A car pool will leave the church at 11:00 a.m. Please sign the poster in the narthex. If you need to cancel your reservation, contact Anita at 348-1170 or 341-4057.

SUNDAY SCHOOL STUDENTS are invited to bring in food for our food bank on Sunday, November 17. On that day you will see in the narthex the basket and wagon, where you can deposit food gifts. Food collected on these Sundays is vital to our food bank ministry. Further, reaching out to others in love is central to being a Christian. Through your generosity many are fed. Current needs include crackers, juice, soup, muffin mix, tuna, gelatin and pudding.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS NOW for a Holy Eucharist service at 7:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving Eve to praise our God for His numerous blessings.

ENVELOPES FOR THANKSGIVING FLOWERS AND DECORATIONS will be in the pew card holders on the Sundays of November 3, 10 and 17. You may contribute any amount for these flowers. Please note whether you would like the flowers in thanksgiving for an important event in your life or in memory of a loved one. Envelopes must be received by November 17 to have information listed in the bulletin.

OFFERING ENVELOPES for 2014 are available in the narthex for all members (pledging and non-pledging) and for non-members who have made identifiable contributions this year. Please pick yours up today. Contributions are tracked according to envelope numbers, not names. Using your envelopes is a great help to the counters and data input operators.

FOOD BANK We can use jelly, pancake mix, syrup, juice, cereal, crackers, canned tomatoes (stewed or diced), tuna, stew, boxed potatoes, jiffy mix, gelatin and pudding.

OPEN DATES for Altar Flowers are all Sundays in December. During Advent we use evergreen arrangements on the altar in place of flowers. However, you may still sign the flower calendar for memorials and thanksgiving. Names will be printed in the bulletin, and the money contributed will be used to purchase the greenery.

Youth group summer trip to Washington DC

20130717-215720.jpg

This week youth group is enjoying the summer trip to Harpers Ferry, WV and Washington, DC. So far the group has visited the Gettysburg and Antietam battlefields, volunteered at the St. Albans church in DC, toward the National Cathedral, and visited several monuments.

Plans for the rest of the week are: visiting more monuments and museums, volunteering at the hostel in Harpers Ferry, horseback riding on the Appalachian Trail, and participating in a ghost walk around Harpers Ferry!

The theme for the summer trip is “God and Country”. Father Dan is helping the kids the adult chaperones to understand and reflect on God’s role in our nations history.

The altar pictured at right is contained within one of the many chapels in the National Cathedral.
