This week youth group is enjoying the summer trip to Harpers Ferry, WV and Washington, DC. So far the group has visited the Gettysburg and Antietam battlefields, volunteered at the St. Albans church in DC, toward the National Cathedral, and visited several monuments.

Plans for the rest of the week are: visiting more monuments and museums, volunteering at the hostel in Harpers Ferry, horseback riding on the Appalachian Trail, and participating in a ghost walk around Harpers Ferry!

The theme for the summer trip is “God and Country”. Father Dan is helping the kids the adult chaperones to understand and reflect on God’s role in our nations history.

The altar pictured at right is contained within one of the many chapels in the National Cathedral.

CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS!  It’s that wonderful time of the year again.  We are currently planning for our booth at the Johnny Appleseed Festival.  It looks like it’s going to be another successful event, both from a fundraiser perspective and, of course, a fellowship one.  If anyone is interested in helping in the planning stage of the event, please let Cindy Spice know.  We are always looking for help.  Mark on your calendars now for September 21 and 22, so you can volunteer a little bit of time during the festival.  I understand that for some it may be difficult to be at the festival, so keep in mind that there are several different ways to help out that won’t involve coming to the actual booth.  Remember that we always have a great time and don’t forget those fabulous Sizzle Chops!

OUR NEW WEBSITE   The switch to our new web site, designed by Melissa Renner, has been made.  We thank God for Melissa’s enthusiasm and knowledge in this area.  The new address is http://saintalbanfw.org  Check it out!

DO YOU SHOP AT KROGER’S OR SCOTT’S?  If so, there is a very simple way to provide funds for St. Alban’s.  Just sign the poster on the bulletin board indicating that you would like to purchase a $5 gift card.  Then reload that card at the customer service desk at the store where you shop.  Each time the St. Alban’s account reaches $1,000, we receive a 3% rebate check.  PLEASE SIGN UP TODAY.  CARDS WILL BE ORDERED THIS WEEK.

FOOD BANK  Thanks to all our folks who help with this effort.  Please think of the pantry if you have an extra 2½ hours a month. We can use fruit juice, pancake mix, pancake syrup, cereal, crackers, spaghetti sauce, spaghetti, chicken and beef broth, soup (not chicken noodle), laundry detergent, dish washing liquid, bar soap and paper towels.
